lying , it's better than a slap in the face
I tell lies all the time , when someone asks me how old they are I automatically take five years of what I think . When someone asks me if their bum looks big I never say no its your whole body that looks fat . Telling lies is part of a civil society , what we do govern is what we lie about and the reason for it . I would like to think I'd never tell a big lie but you can never say never . A time may come when I think the use of a large lie is warranted. Is lying really being bad or is it being kind . http://www.philforhumanity.com/6_Reasons_Why_We_Lie.html

Swearing is it that f*****g bad
Is swearing bad behaviour . As a swearer I would say no , but that I suppose is because I would hate to look like a hypocrite. Swearing has been around for hundreds maybe thousands of years all that actually changes is the word said out loud. By this I mean it is quite common to hear the word c**t in England used as a swear word , if you went to America and said the same thing everyone would probably just nod at you . just like if an American said fag here we would probably offer them a cigarette. Does a word become a swear word if it is said in a certain way to mean a certain thing. Is swearing not bad behaviour ,is it just self expression.

Rudeness
I would put rudeness in the being bad category , as I find rudeness very irritating. As a English women I pride myself on my manners but find unfortunately they are a dieing fashion . I don't drive so I catch the bus to uni and I find the cue jumping and pushing appalling . I find that no one stands for the elderly anymore and your hard pushed to find someone giving a women a hand with her push chair . What has happened in society today to push the value of manners so far back as a priority. I find this has become a pet hate of mine.Do we think that because others don't use manners we won't bother I wonder.

The worst being bad of all
All through the module we have looked at stuff that is deemed "being bad " and along with that we have looked for things that are bad . I found every sick , twisted and incredibly interesting bad stuff I needed on the Internet . In my opinion this is the ultimate bad , it gives you the access to the world be it good or be it bad. I think the minute we all hooked up to the net things started to go down hill . We now live in a society that is obsessed with the Internet. Everyone on face book or "chatting" on line .I think the sick and the twisted are able to share their stuff so much more easily it is scary. In society we have laws that govern our actions but they do not apply to the Internet . This is probably the scariest bit don't you think.

being bad
What does being bad actually mean . Is it misbehaving or having a crappy attitude . Is being bad a social thing or a sexual thing . In this module we have looked at areas that have been associated with bad behaviour , things like having affairs and having tattoos . Are these things really bad , or are we just changing the words from being judgmental to being bad . As I've said all along the ideas of being bad fit into the groups dictated by society . I would bet that if we did this module in other parts of Europe they would have completely different ideas . Is being bad really that bad at all.

wierd plastic surgery
http://www.topsocialite.com/the-15-worst-celebrity-plastic-surgery-disasters-you-will-ever-see/
Plastic surgery is an interesting topic. On the one hand, there are many plastic surgery procedures which have become so commonplace that they are more or less accepted by mainstream society. (Breast implants, face lifts, transgender surgery and gastric bypasses) On the other hand, there are choices that people make with plastic surgery which are considered controversial, cutting-edge or just plain weird.
Has the invention of re invention gone to far now ,is it a form of bad behaviour or just another way for individuals to mutate themselves.
Below are ten of the most unusual options for plastic surgery procedures, methods and decisions: (courtesy of the internet)
1. Hymenoplasty. There are a lot of strange kinds of plastic surgery that women can get for their genital region. Many of these types of surgery are even becoming almost mainstream. Women can get their outer lips re-shaped. They can get their G-spot amplified to increase sensation. And then there’s this plastic surgery procedure in which the hymen is reconstructed to make it seem as though you’re a virgin again. As any woman who has lost her virginity knows, it’s not all that comfortable to have your hymen broken. Why a woman would want to go through that again is absolutely beyond me.
2. Iris Implants to Change the Color of your Eyes. There are now surgical procedures available which actually allow you to permanently change the color of your eyes. They’re called intraocular implants (or may be known as iris implants) and they do require actual surgery to be performed on the eye. There are a lot of risks to this procedure. It was initially done to assist people with actual eye problems (such as albino eyes that were hypersensitive to light) but now it’s being done by people who just want to skip the hassle of color contacts and get the color of their eyes changed forever.
3. Pubic Hair Transplant. Apparently there are some women in the world whose bodies don’t grow huge bushes of pubic hair. While their hairy sisters are busy spending money on shaving, waxing and eradicating their pubic hair, these ladies are actually getting surgical procedures done to transplant hair to the pubic range. How retro. And how weird.
4. Nipple Removal. People who are interested in extreme body modification sometimes choose to get their nipples removed. This procedure is rarely (if ever) done by women because there are a lot of complications involved in removing female nipples. However it’s an increasingly common procedure among men in the body modification world. The procedure is painful, bloody and seemingly pointless.
5. Vampire Teeth Implants. There is a subsection of society that is not only interested in vampire stories but wants to truly become a vampire. One of the ways that people immersed in this world will do this is to get extreme dental surgery such as getting permanent implants of fangs on their teeth. This requires pulling out the original teeth and getting fake implants surgically inserted into the gums.
6. Ankle Lipo. Liposuction is a common surgery that everyone is familiar with. However some people really take it too far. There are some areas of the body that rarely have a lot of fat – ankles, the upper back and the neck are the best examples. If you’re getting ankle lipo then you’re really serious about your plastic surgery.
7. DIY Plastic Surgery. Sometimes it’s not the procedure that’s weird; it’s the way that you decide to do it. Doing it yourself is one of those ideas that is never a good idea. However because of cost (or because doctors refuse to do the surgery for one reason or another) there’s a frighteningly large number of DIY plastic surgery horror stories walking around out there. The most reported example is of a woman named Hang Mioku who had gotten so many procedures done that she couldn’t get a doctor to continue working on her. She was addicted to cosmetic surgery and started injecting herself with silicone to keep up her look. She ran out of silicone and then injected herself with cooking oil. Hello? Bad idea!!
8. Look Alike Plastic Surgery. This is comprehensive plastic surgery that is designed to make the patient look like someone else. Usually the person wants to look like someone who is famous. Sometimes, however, they want to look like someone else that they know (such as the case of the Mom and Daughter look alikes). Creepy!!
9. Extreme Plastic Surgery Requiring Many, Many, Many Plastic Surgery Procedures. There are a few people in the world who are trying so hard to look extremely different from the way that they look naturally that they have to get hundreds of thousands of dollars of plastic surgery (and some rather odd procedures) to complete the look. The most famous example is the man who is trying to look like a tiger. He’s had a number of different procedures done to make him look as feline as possible and he’s not done yet. He plans to keep getting more work done as long as he can find surgeons willing to perform what he wants completed.
10. Pet Plastic Surgery. It’s not just people that are getting weird plastic surgery. It’s also pets. Yep, there are pet owners out there who think that a doggy face lift is exactly what their pooch needs to be perfect. Apparently some of these procedures are justified as medically necessary. Generally these tend to be procedures in which the folds of the animal’s skin are removed or tightened up (similar to a face lift or eye lift surgery) which makes it easier for the owner to keep the pet clean. I don’t think that I’m buying that it’s necessary, though. What do you think?

cyber infidelity
http://edwardkarani.blogspot.com/2009/03/waking-up-to-cyber-infidelity.html
Gone are the days when a would-be-cheater had to physically leave home to seek out someone with whom to have an affair. Now it can all be done in cyberspace without the risk of running into family members, nosy neighbors, or inquisitive friends and workmates. With a few clicks of the mouse, a potential cheater has instant access to an endless array of willing partners. A cyber affair can be easily initiated and conducted from the privacy of your home, with your unsuspecting spouse or significant other in the same room, oblivious to what is going on.
Cyber affairs are actually a form of emotional infidelity. Although in the early stages, there’s no sex involved, most emotional infidelity eventually leads to sexual infidelity if left unchecked . But men and women view cyber affairs very differently. Most men don’t consider cyber affairs as cheating. However women view them quite differently. A survey in Divorce Magazine found that only 46 percent of men considered intense internet relationships to be infidelity, compared to 72 percent of women. Do you think cyber infidelity is cheating or just a bit of on line fun.

Good gangster bad gangsta
http://www.thekraytwins.com/
What is our great fascination with gangsters . I myself am a huge Kray fan at the tender age of eleven I read my first autobiography and have been reading about them ever since. Why do certain types of criminals intrigue us and others repel us . We see the Krays as "decent" criminal who only hurt the "bad " people . The amount of times I've heard the saying " you live by the sword , you die by the sword ". What is the difference . I mean yes the Krays where portrayed as gentleman but still they where killers , professionals in violence. As I keep saying through my blog it seems that society governs what is wrong or right regardless of it being legal or not.

taboo tatoos
http://www.bizarremag.com/
While trying to find some thing to write about for the blog on tattoos I came across an article in a magazine called bizarre that featured a story on a tattoo artist who was so sick of tattoos that had become mainstream , he started inking people with all sorts of controversial art. It is interesting to see how far tattoos have come over the years , only 20 years ago it was a very different story. I remember when women where judged for having tattoos and how certain tattoos meant different things . I remember men who had gone to prison had borstal spots and women had rose tattoos on their breasts where deemed easy. Thankfully things have changed a lot over the years and anyone can express them self the way they want . Tattoos have became big business as well with the help of celebs and tattoo documentaries like London ink . I myself love tats I see them as self expression , but I wonder if I'd have felt so strongly 20 years ago .

Monogamy and me
http://www.afterinfidelity.com/infidelity_defined.htm
I really enjoyed the lecture last week it was interesting to see what definitions where given for infidelity . It was interesting to see that most had similar fixed ideas about what was cheating and what was not . It got me thinking is cheating really wrong , or do we just think it is , because the society we live in perceives it that way .Are we born monogamous or are we taught to be so .

I can relate to what you say about gambling , I too went to a casino and really enjoyed the whole experience and I can remember as a young adult spending days playing culucee and black jack. I have however always refrained from playing cards on a Sunday as I was brought up to believe it was wrong to play cards or gamble on a holy day . This may seem absurd to some but it was and still is a part of my family beliefs and traditions , something I will carry on with my daughter.

Sorry to disagree Jen , from a personal aspect of drugs , i would hate them to be made legal . I loooove Frank Gallagher but could you seriously imagine him being your dad or worse your partner. I come from a drug culture , by the time I was old enough to drink I'd tried every drug going , so had my friends . Today I'm lucky I'm at uni and have a life i love however I can't say the same about my mates . One died at 25 (R.I.P. Dave ) a couple are in jail and the others are in re hab or running the streets as little smack rats. I know you ment soft drugs but we all stared on the trips and the weed. Look what happened to them.

I have a few tattoos and they all have meanings to me . My first one was all about rebellion . I was 16 and wasn't allowed one . So I got a small daisy on my back , which i hate now and am having covered next month. My stars are very important to me as I had them a couple of years ago and they represent the end of a life long struggle . My bow on my wrist is another to represent an anniversary , my daughters name as she is my life . I feel that my skin should honour her as my heart does. I also have " la bella vita " written on my foot which translates into " the beautiful life " . I feel my ink is a part of my story and like Trac said they will be their until the end . My own personal scrap book in skin.

Teen smoking
As we have looked at smoking in an earlier session on the module . I thought I would go back to it and explore why we smoke . Most smokers and now ex smokers said they started young ,to look more grown up or due to peer pressure. Statistics suggest that the younger you are when you start the less chance there is that you will give up at all. As smoking has become an increasingly hard sport to play these days , it is shocking to discover that on average 450 young people a day take it up . While following other student blogs I have found everyone has stated they started smoking young . Wouldn't the Government be better off tackling teen smoking instead of trying to make smoking hard work for the adults.
In response to Jenny' s post
http://jenniesbeingbad.blogspot.com/2010/03/smoking.html
I agree completely with what Jen says about smoking to fit in . I started smoking when I was the same age to fit in . I think we all do things as adolescents to fit in , smoke , drink , get in to fights and start taking drugs, to name but a few. It is just devastating that these immature actions can led to life long addictions.

In response to Sarah's blog on mastibation and the Victorians . I found her blog both interesting and unreal , not about what she wrote by how the Victoria men used a women's sex to oppress her in yet another way . I thank my lucky stars I was not born in that period of history as I know I'd have been committed before I had chance to get married.

Aleister Crowley
As Ive mentioned The Marquis de Sade I thought it only right to mention Aleister Crowley . In his day he was dubbed the "wickedest man in the world" for his role in the occult. After abandoning Christianity while studying at Cambridge , he began studying occultism and mysticism . He was to join the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn , becoming a practitioner of black arts and sex magic. His writings and poetry brought the occult in to the mainstream society.Perhaps the biggest taboo he broke was to popularise an anti- moralistic , anti - Christian approach to life . My only question would be ? would he be viewed so outrageous in modern society.

I must admit I am one of those sad people who get up and watch Jez most days . Some times I enjoy it some times I can't stand him or the sad b******s that go on it . I think that if they are genuine stories , there is a lot of people in Britain being bad.

In response to Jenny's post on masturbation
I think Jenny has a good attitude towards masturbation , and as she says she comes from a open family who talk about these things . I believe that if your open with your kids it will help to give them a healthy attitude towards sex when they are older. I could never talk to my mom about sex , although she sat me down quite early to explain about the birds and the bees , she just didn't go into detail about what they got up to . I remember feeling embarrassed when i told my family I was pregnant as I knew they would know I'd been at it . I hope I can be a little more relaxed with my little girl , but I pray she doesn't ask me about masturbation.

Kids the movie
http://www.larryclark.us/
We watched this film tonight and I couldn't believe how sad I thought it was . As I have a young daughter I found the film quite disturbing as I realised that the things in the film are very real issues in young peoples lives today . It shocked me as I think it was quite realistic as I can remember pulling some of those stunts as well when I was a youth. I may find I make my daughter watch it when she is a little older so she can be made aware of little boys and their p****s.

I really enjoyed Pat's blogs but I really agree with what he says about stealing . I think it is wrong to steal anything , like Pat says there are places to go if your in need . I also find it shocking how at ease people are at stealing out of shops . I don't think they would be so relaxed about it if it was their shop. stealing is bad , end of story.

Marquis de Sade
http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/desade.htm
As we are going to look at pornograpy I thought we could have a little look at the Marquis de Sade .This french aristocrat spent most of his life in prison or insane asylums , where he would write his pornographic novels . Regularly arrested for imprisoning and sexually abusing his male and female staff at his castle , he was sentenced to death for poisoning prostitutes and sodomising his manservants , though he was later given a reprieve. While in prison he wrote 120 days of sodom which was about paedophillia , coprophillia , mutilation , incest , nun rape and necrophilia. I thought if anyone deserved a mention in being bad this sick s***t did.

extreme body mods
http://www.modern-savage.com/body_mods/body_modifications.php
In my blog to day I've decided to look at extreme body modification as this aswell is a topical taboo.
Extreme body modification, while seeming unnecessary, painful and dangerous, appeals to a surpising number of people. Body modifiers desire to change their body so strongly that they perform painful, dangerous and irreversible procedures upon themselves often without the support or knowledge of others. The reasons may be varied and strange, but they are always real and never trivial - few people perform major surgery upon themselves simply upon a whim.
Modern society prides itself on it's tolerance and diversity. Most people have no problem accepting others with differences, as long as those differences resulted from forces beyond their control, such as genetics, accidents or diseases. Insulting racial minorities and the disabled is considered unacceptable and immoral, and rightly so. Yet it is clear that we have much more difficulty coming to terms with others who wish to make themselves different of their own accord. Is this a double standard?

In response to Tracey's blog on prostitution . I also think that the girls need to be protected . I believe that like in Amsterdame the trade (cause that is what it is ) should be policed and controlled . Could you imagin the money the goverment , could make quite litirally off the backs of these women and men . It's like the old saying "sex sells "

What we could do in session 12
http://www.tattoo.co.uk/bthm.htm
We could go to the tattoo museum in London as I think it would be both interesting and relevant to the module . We are going to look at tattoos and body mods in one of the sessions why not take it a bit further and find out about their history and origin . We could all get a new tat done while we are there.

http://jenniesbeingbad.blogspot.com/
In response to Jenni's blog I would love a weekend in The Dame but not sure the old man would believe it was a university requirement . As Jen also said about prostitution It's your body . I believe that's true however I do think that for most it's not all high class and glamour like Billy Piper makes out . I think if you asked the girls up Carma (red light district in Walsall) they would tell you it's cold ,has long hours , the customer feed back is terrible and the pays piss poor.

Bulling tactics at university
I think bulling should come under the being bad heading . At school I was fortunate to not have been bullied but I saw the devastating effect it had on some of my peers . However since last week in one of my seminars I had the feeling a set of females where trying to bully me . When I was talking to the lectures they where constantly laughing and making both myself and the lecturer feel quite uncomfortable . The situation could have gotten out of hand if I had reacted in a immature way , and forgot I was a grown up and had a reason to be in the lecture (like to learn ). Sadly events like this are all to frequent especially it would seem in university amongst people who are doing degrees in things like social care ( that was my seminar )

I try really hard not to lie , but sometimes when peole ask things like " how old do you think I am " I will lie because the truth might end with a slap in my face.

I think Tracy's piece on masturbation is brilliant she's right about the Victorians they where all a bunch of repressed pervs . as I said in by own blog I feel uncomfortable talking about it I am happy to say I don't feel there is anything wrong in it . The Victorians have always intrigued me I'm sure I hear ed some where Old Queen Vic herself was a smack head

Mainstream masturbation
In Thursdays lecture we spoke about masturbation and how it has changed in terms of years . I do find it shocking to think it was regarded with such venomous distaste . However I remember being told by my nan that not so many moons ago children who wrote with their left hand where thought to be spawned by the devil . What seems so absurd to us today was part and parcel to life back in the day . I'm a 30 year old women and I must admit I find talking about masturbation uncomfortable , but I do come from quite a prudes family . It also gives you hairy palms and sends you blind.

Those where the days before kids and consequences . God I miss being young free and loaded.

In regards to Tracey's blog I feel that addiction is a gene that we are born with . I think the word addiction is used to frequently for terms i.e cleaning addiction is that an a addiction or is it a habit or a compulsion . Addiction to me is a thing that brings intangibility to a persons live . So yes cleaning can be an addiction if it is an unmanageable aspect of your life.

Cyber Stalking
As we are expected to find things to blog about with relevance to our subject i thought i would have a nag about cyber stalking . It is no great shock to my peeps that i'm naff on a computer but after today Mark the module leader got a lesson is this . Since about 1 this afternoon i've bombarded him with e mails moaning i can't do links , i can't down load photos ' i'm not sure my comments are right ( you get the picture ) . It finally accrued to me about 7pm this evening that i had to stop e mailing him as he was gonna think i was a stalker . Really the poor man must have been s******g himself at my constant barrage of complains the last reply i got was a "yep" . Has anyone else had a similar problem. Not with the stalking but with the blogging.

Smokin the hidden costs
I missed last weeks session so i will write about smoking . It is funny how your politics change on smoking when you give up i was for ever saying as a smoker " it's my business if i smoke its only me who's effected " well now as a non smoker i can see this is a stupid statement as the cost of smoking on the N.H.S is between £1.4 billion and £1.7 billion a year . This is to treat smoke related health problems. I'm not about to bang on about the effects of smoking as where are all adults but the point i am trying to make is how easy it is to see the other side of the argument when you stop deluding yourself about the habit your trying to defend . Very much like addiction don't you think ?

Prostitution and Audrey Hepburn
In last weeks session we looked at film , animation and comedy clips . It was quite funny to look at Audrey Hepburn as a prostitute . If i knew that it was about prostitution I'd have watched at least once over the years. Seriously though i think all the clips could be linked to my first blog as they do high light forms of addiction you could say stealing in the family guy clip is an addiction , stalk king in the peep show clip is related to sex addiction and prostitution can be a consequence of drug addiction . Its worth thinking about.

substance consumption (various)
As we are going to look in some detail about drugs , I thought it would be both relevant and interesting to explore the idea of addiction it's self. We could question whether we are born with addiction, that it is a gene .
Or that it is something that manifests it's self in our lives, because of our life choices and personal circumstances. Is addiction an indulgence or is it a disease?
